Age and Breast Implants

As women age their bodies decide to take on a whole new shape. Many women are not pleased with the look of their body after gravity has worked its
magic on it. Breast implant surgery is an option that many of these women choose to have done. A breast lift surgery is also often performed for women
who show signs of aging.

Many teenagers are just as uncomfortable with their bodies as older women are. They are under the impression that bigger breasts will give them the
body that they desire. These teens will usually turn to their parents for this type of problem with hopes that they will schedule an appointment for
them with a plastic surgeon. Teens do not make good candidates for this type of elective surgery. Their bodies have not yet fully developed and
complications could arise from having implants too early. While both of these types of females desire to have better breasts or a breast enlargement, there are some age restrictions that plastic surgeons must follow before taking
the patient.

There are some exceptions to the age rule. Women, who are over 50 and, are in good health, could be ideal candidates for breast augmentation. Women of this age are suppose undergo yearly mammograms and this can pose a
slight problem for women with implants. Rupturing is a common problem during these examinations. This is caused by the machine squeezing an implant too
hard and it bursts from the pressure. This is more apt to happen with patients who have saline implants rather than those made of silicone. Informing
the technician of implants can help prevent this from happening. Mammograms can also be done today with the use of an MRI machine. This type of
procedure examines the breast without the use of force pressing down on the implants.
