What is Temporary Relining or Therapeutic Relining?
Some people wait to so long to come in to the dentist office after they receive their dentures, that is actually time to get new dentures. When this is the case, the gums are in terrible condition. Some signs of the gums being in terrible condition is; they are swollen, red, or quite misshapen. When people wait this long of getting any type of work done on their dentures, it is harder to get work done to them.

For example, if you do need new dentures, you would have to wait till your gums are back to normal before you can start the process. Starting the process while your gums are swollen, will give a false alignment and then the process would have to start again. Waiting till the gums are back to normal and their is no sign of them being red, swollen or any type of quite misshapen, is the only option you have. The waiting period of time depends on how fast your gums heal. Getting new dentures while your gums have not healed will just cause more problems later on, down the road.
While you are waiting for your gums to heal to get the new dentures, there is an option that your dentist can do, its a temporary relining or therapeutic relining. This would allow any inflammation to subside. This reline is usually made out of pliable and soft materials to have a much more tighter fit. This is not a permeate fix, it would last for a couple mouths, just long enough for your gums to get back to normal state.
